Greg Beales, Shelter

Greg Beales head shotGreg Beales joined homelessness charity Shelter as Director of Communications, Policy & Campaigns in 2017 and is currently leading on the Social Housing Commission following the Grenfell tragedy. Most recently Greg worked as a Senior Director at multinational advertising agency WPP, prior to which he was Executive Director at the Labour Party. Greg also acted as Campaigns Director of Strategy and the keeper of party polling for Ed Miliband.

Greg was Director of Performance for the NHS during a period of substantial investment and improvement, which saw significant reductions in waiting times and improvements in cleanliness and access to services. He also worked on the development of the campaign for the living wage, and currently sits on the advisory panel for rough sleeping.

A2: Are charities getting left behind in the changing world of campaigning?

In this session we will challenge civil society actors to think about their campaigning strategies and whether they are keeping up with the current landscape. We will ask whether charities are in tune with the changing power dynamic, and if their brands can adapt to the ‘hashtag not brand’ era of networked campaigning.
